Coille Phuiteachain

Led by Forestry and Land Scotland.

Suitable for up to 24 people.

The going is rough. To start with, there is a steep wooden style over a deer fence. There are two burns to cross and vegetation is deep and tussocky. Our route will include short, steep sections. Please bring robust footwear and good waterproofs.

Coille Phuiteachain is a fascinating wood and well worth a visit. You will see several huge ancient pine trees as well as old wood pasture oaks and hazels. This is a classic west coast pinewood with rich rainforest lichens and bryophytes. It has a fascinating woodland history and many of the older trees show signs of past cultural use. There has been a long history of state forest management and restoration of PAWS around the core area has been underway for some time.
