Relict Caledonian Pinewood was rediscovered in Gleann Fionnlighe in 2023 following investigations by the Wild Pine Project. 

We will visit An Srachdach, one of two pinewood fragments in the glen, and discuss how we analysed the history and ecology of the site to determine that it supports genuine Caledonian Pinewood. You will see diverse woodland with pine and various broadleaved trees intermixed, specialised rainforest plants and lichens, and evidence of historical fir candle making.
